Testimonials

The following are unedited testimonials from our valued clients. We are proud to note that a great many of them have asked us to return over the years to design and build them one or more additional projects.

For years we had planned to build a garage. Over time, the “wish list” grew: a family room over the garage (private, but not too private), an exercise area, a screened porch, a bigger, more functional kitchen, a bigger, more functional mud room. The task seemed daunting. But working with Michael and Michael the project came together and exceeded our expectations. From designing (including building a scale model of the house to try to figure out the roof lines), to budgeting, to building, to modifying on the fly, Michael and Michael worked with us to keep the project moving forward. Michael Z is a perfectionist who wants everything to look “just right;” his cabinetry garners praise from all who visit! Brian and Paul were conscientious and courteous. Michael G. returned our calls and emails and maintained a calm demeanor when confronted with the unavoidable issues that arise in construction projects. The new construction fits perfectly with our 100-year old Victorian house, and we are enjoying the new spaces immensely! We are very happy that we chose MGZ for our project and would recommend them without hesitation. – Robert M. Allen, 3 Charles Street, Natick, MA   (See the project here)

MGZ Design & Construction, Inc designed and renovated our bathroom in June of 2008. They were very professional, courteous and trustworthy. They arrived when they said they would, cleaned up after themselves, and were sensitive to our needs. When we decided to upgrade our kitchen this year there was no doubt in our minds who we wanted to do the work, and as usual the job was done to our complete satisfaction. We both work and were not at home during the day so trust was an important factor in hiring MGZ Design. I would definitely recommend MGZ Design for all jobs. – Fred and Sandra, Holliston, MA

MGZ designed and built a major addition and kitchen renovation for us about 10 years ago. The addition included a family room, a first floor bathroom with shower & laundry, several sun porches, and a back entry way, along with a kitchen renovation. Our home is on a slope, and they anticipated and dealt expertly with the challlenges associated with the site. We have been extremely pleased with the results, with the practicality and attractiveness of it, and with how it blends with our 1860s era home yet gives us the conveniences we wanted.

Recently, they designed and built a screened-in porch for us, and also crafted built-in bookshelves and some cabinetry for our living room. We are positively thrilled with the results. Again, the work blends seamlessly into the existing home and does not look “added-on.” The living room built-ins are elegant, more beautiful than I imagined they could be, with lovely workmanship, and they add so much to our home. As we live with and in the new space, we discover details that they tended to that we were not even aware of at the time but that make the space wonderful. They are an absolute pleasure to work with.

Our project consisted of roughly doubling our living space, starting with a 90-year-old, 1,500 sf, center entrance colonial. The architect, Robert Stein, a commercial architect in Boston and a friend of the owners, had developed a preliminary set of plans which were terrific. Now if we could only afford to build the design that we were so excited about. Two large contractors bid the job and we could feel our dream house slipping away. The prices were three times what we thought we could afford.

Enter MGZ Design & Construction. They put together a careful bid that was within our means and stuck to it. Not to say that we didn’t exceed the amount we wanted to spend, but the increases were due to our decisions, not MGZ’s errors. Because MGZ is a design/build firm, and the architect was a friend, we saved a few dollars by building from the (detailed) preliminary plans instead of the customary construction documents. This put a great deal of responsibility on MGZ to interpret the job. The design intent was clear, but much of the construction detailing was left to the contractor, and MGZ did a superb job. In fact, it was a dream job. How often do you hear that kind of comment about a construction project? We can’t recommend MGZ highly enough. – George and Martina Lynde, Newton, MA  (See the project here)

We are thrilled with our new master bathroom. It turned out exactly as we wanted it, because Michael Gelb was always willing to collaborate with us and make suggestions rather than impose his own design ideas. Mike Zayac is a perfectionist, so all the work was done to the highest standard. Plus, all the members of the crew were pleasant to have in the house day after day. We are looking forward to our next project, a kitchen renovation and mudroom addition. It is nice to start the project knowing that we are in such good hands, and that we don’t have to be hovering the crew because they will certainly meet – and exceed – our expectations. – Bob and Nikkola, Natick, MA

After combining households we now needed to address our home, which needed a serious facelift both inside and out.  Michael Gelb initially met with us to discuss what we wanted to achieve.  On the inside we wanted more of a view to our yard, more closet space and an additional bath.  We felt the outside looked a bit like a “white elephant” and were relying on MGZ Design and Construction for their ideas. We were thrilled with the plans that Michael proposed.  He was able to incorporate all of our needs into his design while keeping the integrity of the house.
During the construction process we quickly learned to rely on the invaluable advice and suggestions of Michael Zayac.  He is a gifted artist who takes pride in his work and his crews.  Throughout this job both Gelb and Zayac were always available.  Michael Zayac arrived each day to supervise his crew and check on any subcontractors.  We truly had a wonderful experience with a great team.  The final result is more than we anticipated and we are just thrilled.  We love that our great room fits right into the period style of our home and that we can now enjoy a seasonal view of our yard.

Working with you and the other members of your team in remodeling our kitchen was a pleasure beyond words. You have restored our faith that there are still businesses run by people who have talent, integrity and business acumen. It was such an advantage to have MGZ Design and Construction to handle both the design and build phases. Working directly with you and your foreman Paul, there were absolutely no hassles with your sub-contractors or other people with whom we came in contact with during the process. We appreciate that the job was completed within the time frame we originally had set up and thank you for your attention to detail and perfection. You really stand by your work and it shows. Thank you, Michael, for an outstanding job!– Thomas and Sandra Fletcher, Westford, MA

From the moment we moved into our home in Sherborn, we wanted to change the front door surround.   Fourteen years later, we finally got serious.  MGZ came highly recommended. After interviewing several design build firms, we hired the MGZ team and were extremely pleased with the results.  They listened to our needs, designed some options, collaborated with us to come up with the ideal design and delivered a high quality solution–on time and on budget.  Our main goal was to keep the look authentic and traditional.  The quality of workmanship and attention to detail was excellent and the people were very pleasant to work with.  We could not be happier and would gladly recommend their exceptional services to any homeowner interested in building or remodeling their home! Thank you!” – Jamie Shone, Sherborn, MA (Read the article here) (See the project here)

Building a new house can be nerve-wracking and full of apprehension; not for my husband and me this past year! It’s hard to fully describe how smoothly everything went from the first meeting with our design-build team, Michael Gelb and Mike Zayac. Their orientation was quality first. They hired superior subcontractors: employees with great skills who worked with pride. We have been so fortunate to have them build our house and have been completely spared all the dire warnings. When the building inspectors did their final check of the house and I bumped into one of them a few days later he declared, “What a magnificent house.” Then he joked, “We tried our best to find something wrong. Not a chance!” – Liz and Dave Benney, Upton, MA (Read the article here)  (see the project here)
